During September and October, bright green and pink pomegranates are seen everywhere in Jabal Al Akhdar which is moored high up in Oman’s central Hajar mountain range. For this reason, coupled with breath-taking views offered by the mountaintop, locals, expats and tourists from all over the world find it worth visiting this spectacular mountain In region in September as it is the peak season for pomegranates. During this time, Jabal Al Akhdar transforms into a fruit paradise with the full-blown goodness of luscious fruits: such as pomegranates, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, pears, apricots, plums, peaches, figs, walnuts and almonds. But it is the pomegranate which stands tall among other fruits. It is also the most valuable source of income for farmers in these mountains. “Farmers start caring for the trees from January and in May they irrigate it about five to seven times until the end of September
Found exclusively on the hillsides of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Oman’s green
mountain, the Jabal Akhdar rose is unlike any other in the world.
The Jabal Akhdar rose is unique in the Green Mountain in Oman. Known
in Oman and as well as outside of the country for its fragrance, the pink
rose is traditionally harvested in March and April and is widely used in
fragrances and herbal remedies; as well in spa treatments in the Sultanate.
The blooming of these roses begins on the first day of April, with the flowers
being plucked during the early morning, after which they are distilled in
small boilers. The rose water is then extracted through a method of gradual
distillation.
“This craft is not without hardship. However, the hard effort and fatigue
soon melts away when the farmer reaps the harvest of his efforts: the
distilled rose water,” said Oman’s Ministry of Tourism. “When the flowers
bloom in April, farmers cut and transport them to their simple distillation
plants. You will see rose water distillation plants during your trip in Al
Jabal Al Akhdar. Roses are planted on a large scale in Al Jabal Al Akhdar.
Farmers then collect and process them.”

the prized Damask roses in full bloom and meet the families who continue to
make rose water in their distilleries.
A light picnic lunch is available for those keen to savour the moment
A relatively short trek down. It begins with a steep yet straightforward cliff
descent which the path then leads steadily down into the wadi, passing some
of the most spectacular mountainous scenery to the hidden village of Al
Khutaymi, which is in a cave in the wadi floor. Continue another 15
minutes and you will discover the best swimming pool in the Green
Mountain, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip before hiking back.
